London, England
(June 4, 2005)
St. Pauls Cathedral was spectacular. They didn't want pictures on the inside but it was fantastic.
St. Pauls current building is 300 years old but there was a church there since the 690 AD.
There are many famous people buried in the crypt at the church including Lord Admiral Nelson (hero of Trafalgar),
the Duke of Wellington, Lord Cromwell (from our days of Independence), and many more. So much history!
There was a military wedding held in there while we were there.
There were three levels to visit at St. Pauls. This is at the second level.
City view from that level.
Climbing to the next level was about 280 ft up.
The view was worth it!
Unusual shaped buildings.
The Millennium Pedestrian Bridge across the Thames. Just to the left is the Globe theater we saw
"The Tempest" on Friday.
The stairs were meant for smaller people.
Next stop for the group was the Tower of London. We saw the Crown Jewels but no pictures were allowed.
Dogbert was of course used to being treated like royalty.
The green space had previously been the moat around the tower.
Many prisoners who entered the tower through this gate did not come back alive.
The Crown Jewels were inside. The swords, scepters, and crowns from many of the kings and queens dating
back to 1064 were on display.
Notice the ravens. There was a premonition that when the crows no longer inhabit the tower, the empire will fall.
There are six crows kept there at all times (and two spare ones shown in the background). The birds all have
one wing clipped so they cannot fly away!
The gentleman and the knight. Dogbert surveys his dominion!
The tower was also used as an armory. This is an early mortar and of course Dogbert is the big shot here!
Note the guard at the building for the crown jewels. Security was heavy.
Rifles. Care to take a shot at how many there are?
The ax used to behead some of Henry VIII's wives.
Some of the torture chambers
Steps of course!
The London Tower Bridge in the background.
The infamous rack used to stretch the truth out of people.
Early seat for the king. Guess who sits there now!
King David.
The area for a moat. I did not water down this tale!
A royal thrown dating back centuries. Now where is Dogbert?
The London Tower Bridge.
Does this prove we were here?
The HMS Belfast on the Thames.
